Window Seat

Swinging on a star is one thing; putting a star in a swing is another. Michael Simon, an interior designer with a passion for 18th-century French Furniture, bought a superb Francois Reuze sofa at Sotheby’s that’s so big it had to be hoisted into his New York apartment. He eyed his prize as it swung in midair.

“It was just as beautiful from underneath as it is from the usual vantage point,” Simon says. He’s even fearless about having partygoers sit on it. “I’m the only thing in this place that isn’t from the 18th century, and all of it will outlive me.”
